FIVE BIG THEMES - COLOUR
The FIVE big themes in music being used for TV, Film, Advertising:
HOME, TOGETHERNESS, TRIUMPH OVER STRUGGLE, COLOUR, FEMALE EMPOWERMENT
Today we focus on COLOUR
How is this a theme? Colour plays a big part in advertising, especially with branding etc. But let's take a look from a more artist based perspective.
Colours have meanings, we all know that, so the use of colours and objects associated with those colours are a way to convey other feelings and emotions without specifically saying the words. If I talk about a RED mist, then you know it's anger I’m talking about. If I feel BLUE, I’m sad etc.
So now if we bring in coloured objects into a song, they start to influence how the other song topics are perceived. A song called LIGHT BLUE CORVETTE would be very different to LITTLE RED CORVETTE. That is the influence of colour.
There are many shades of colours too, so we can talk about DENIM, instead of BLUE, and that might help to add flavour to a lyric. Just scan the colour chart in your local DIY store, and each one is carefully crafted to make you feel a way about it. Again consider how these two colours make you feel:
Adding an adjective makes you translate the colour differently, and gives it another angle to its normal connotations.
Colour can be used to describe variety, different hues of the same colour, or a rainbow of colours.
I love working with singers and writers, so if you think we could colour in a song idea like this, then please contact me at:
